The image below is a layout of the rear garden. This is the walled area to the south of the house. This site will also include the outside yard which covers the west and north sides of our property.
The image is rotated and the top of the image is south. The area to the east is the raised bed vegetable garden. This area is essentially a grid of approx 4′ x 10′ rectangles. Some of these rectangles feature raised beds, in areas where more growing space is required the rectangles will merge and there will be longer common beds. The smaller raise beds are single blocks. This area will have gravel floors and will be irrigated.
The large green area is a perennial meadow. I’ve done a lot of reading about perennials that thrive in our climate (Zone 10) and have bought seed from American Meadows. The gravel area to the west will be left open for entertaining etc. It’s shaded by large established Eucalyptus trees and will also feature three beds that I hope to use to cool the area, visually and physically! These three best will feature repetitive planting to help promote the expanse and also in an attempt to negotiate more affordable rates from nurseries or grow from seed.
